8 Greatest Movie Freak Outs of All Time - Excuse Meme
8 Greatest Movie Freak Outs of All Time
February 28, 2011
In honor of the recent award season, we count down some of the greatest movie freak outs of all time.

#8 - Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold in Vacation

The Griswold family trip to Wally World as depicted in Vacation didn't turn out as Chevy Chase's character Clark Griswold may have planned, but a few disasterous moments wasn't going to stop him from getting to visit Wally World, damnit!

#7 - Mel Gibson as Tom Mullen in Ransom

When you think Mel Gibson, you think of the movie Ransom. (That, or his Jew-hating, drunken rants and overall insanity. Either or.) The passionate delivery of the infamous line, "Give me back my son!" as his veins nearly popped from the skin on his neck easily earns a spot on this list.

#6 - Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest

While Mommie Dearest had plenty of worthy freak outs and WTF? moments, this classic scene has been closely associated with the film since its initial release.

#5 - Steve Martin as Neal Page in Planes, Trains and Automobiles

After a frustrating series of events and many failed transportations that prevent him from reaching his family for Thanksgiving, Steve Martin as Neal Page in Plains, Trains and Automobiles has finally reached his breaking point.

#4 - Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance in The Shining

"Here's Johnny!"

If you're not familiar with this scene depicted in The Shining, get your hands on a copy ASAP. Not only is Jack Nicholson's psychotic freak out one of the greatest in history, but it is also one of the best films in existence.

#3 - Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes in Misery

In Misery, an adaptation of Steven King's 1987 novel, Kathy Bates plays Annie Wilkes, a former nurse who rescues a famous novelist, Paul Sheldon, from a car crash. Unfortunately for Sheldon, Annie is quite a nutcase; in this scene, she goes through an epic freak out after she finds that the novelist killed her favorite character.

#2 - Bruno Ganz as Adolf Hitler in Downfall

How could this earn anything less than a #2 spot? Besides the fact that this freak out from the historical drama Downfall stands on its own, it has also spawned a hilarious series of dub videos that range from Hitler finding out Oasis has split up to Hitler reacting to the parodies.

#1 - Nick Cage in Every Movie He's Ever Been In

No explanations necessary. Just watch as Nicolas Cage delights you with his superfluous movie freak outs.
